Norman C. Blackaby, Ph.D
Dr. Blackaby has served as an assistant professor of Biblical studies in the Cook Graduate School of Leadership at Dallas Baptist University since 2007, teaching courses in theology, Biblical studies, and leadership.
Raised in a pioneer mission setting in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Vancouver, British Columbia, Dr. Blackaby left Canada to attend college in the United States. He completed a degree in history from Hardin Simmons University and then went on to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he completed both a Masters of Divinity with Biblical Languages and a Ph.D. in Biblical Backgrounds and Old Testament.
Equipping Christians for “Kingdom Living” has always been an important part of Dr. Blackaby’s ministry. Dr. Blackaby has been a senior pastor of churches in Texas and Arkansas, as well as working for six years with his father as a vice president of Blackaby Ministries International. During his time with Blackaby Ministries, Norman established the Canadian branch of the ministry as well as created an online school for discipleship which equipped people from more than 30 countries. In addition, he has written more than 10 online classes designed to help people grow spiritually. Many of these courses were used extensively around the world by missionaries and Bible study groups. He has also taught as a teaching fellow for Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth and as an adjunct professor for the Canadian Baptist Seminary in Cochrane, Alberta, prior to arriving at Dallas Baptist University.
Along with his teaching responsibilities at DBU, Dr. Blackaby serves as an active conference and church speaker. Currently, he speaks on topics related to prayer, leadership, and discipleship. One of his favorite activities is co-teaching Sunday school with his wife in the singles' department at his local church.
As an author, Dr. Blackaby has co-written many books with his father, Dr. Henry Blackaby, including Experiencing Prayer with Jesus , which was named the official book for the 2006 National Day of Prayer; Encounters with God: Transforming Your Bible Study ; Called and Accountable: Discovering Your Place in God's Eternal Purpose ; and Called and Accountable 52-Week Devotional , the first Christian book to be simultaneously released in English print and Braille. He also served as a contributor to The Blackaby Study Bible and the Encounters with God book study series.
Dr. Blackaby and his wife, Dana, currently live near Dallas along with their three children, Emily, Douglas, and Anne.
